Refugees in Cardiff are now required to wear red wrist bands in order to identify as refugees and qualify for free meals, which has recently prompted discriminatory slurs from other members of the general public. Likewise, human rights activists have labelled the concept as "blatant discrimination", as reported in an article by The Guardian.
As a traditionally mainstream left newspaper, this report may be affected by the concepts of equality and the opinions of the refugees, as a paper that politically opposes the current Government who are the people creating the requirement of the wrist bands.
This story is relevant as, being in the UK and reported in a British newspaper, it is somewhat local news. Likewise, the concept of having physical identification regarding race and ethnicity has also been in the news for other reasons - in regard to Donald Trump and his political manifesto.
