This week, a story that quickly went viral was that of a kidnapped newborn baby found alive 18 years after she was kidnapped. Almost two decades later, Kamiyah Mobley has been found alive in South Carolina after being abducted from a hospital in Florida.

The difference in the way that different media outlets and distributors covered the story is most evident in the language used. The Sun, a right-wing British newspaper which is arguably targeted at the working class, uses colloquial language and idioms to appeal to their audience ("tot" "snatched") and emotive language to sensationalise the story. The BBC's account, however, relies firmly on the known facts of the story. In the CNN - an American network - coverage, Americanisms and knowledge of American culture are use to relate to the audience.

This story also highlights the virality of social media in the way that the story has been a popular topic of conversation on social networks such as twitter and is also featured on Snapchat.

  1. Interesting article, I think you triangulated well talking about the different approaches from different papers. Only thing missing from your writing is opinion. Good use of terminology though good job *thumbs up*

  3. This is a well-rounded analysis of the story with good use of terminology, maybe you could say what this story would be a good case study for, so others, as well as yourself, could note it for use in an exam.
