This week it was announced that Scarlett Moffatt, Gogglebox (Channel 4) star and winner of 2016 I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here (ITV), will be to host the revival of 90s dating show "Streetmate" (Channel 4).
In the Radio Times account of the story, Moffatt is reported to have said:
“I remember watching Davina on Streetmate when I was younger and thinking females can present entertainment shows too, I want to do that when I'm older. It's such a fun show and it's two of my favourite things to do, chat to randomers and a love story.”
I think that this is important in regards to the representation of females as it suggests that at a young age Moffatt was surprised to realise that "females can present entertainment shows too" and highlights the issue of sexism within the entertainment industry and, perhaps moreso, the progression of equality.
The story also has a point in discussing the television industry and how Scarlett Moffatt will stay with Channel 4, arguably the channel that bought her initial stardom (although she previously appeared on MTV's Beauty School Cop Outs). She is also set to co-host a new entertainment series on Channel 4 with Alan Carr.

This is a relevant story to use, as it is directly relevant to our case study of Gogglebox. You have also included reference to female representation in the TV presenting industry which gives your brief analysis some depth. You could perhaps mention the relevance of Alan Carr, i.e she went on his show when she was only on Gogglebox, and also refers to herself as the 'female Alan Carr'.
ReplyDeleteThis story is good as we are doing Gogglebox as a case study. I also think your article is relevant as you talk about female representation and the interesting idea that she will be staying with Channel 4. Well done!!!
