In the recent week, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's divorce has made headlines, especially across a number of tabloid papers. But, perhaps more interestingly, is the broadsheet and more factual coverage of the stories:
Both The Guardian and the BBC released stories this week which insinuated that the story was not news or questioning why it was, with the BBC headline "Why should the Brangelina split matter?", but ironically they are validating the story by reporting on it at all.
Likewise, both story headlines adopt traits most similar to gossip columns and tabloids with the use of slang term "Brangelina" within the headline, which is a term used in popular discourse to refer Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt as a couple.
I think this story is relevant as it has a part in redefining what we consider to be "news" as well as highlighting the awareness of audience that news distributors have.
