Following this week's EU Referendum that resulted in the news that Great Britain will leave the European Union, a petition calling for a second referendum escalated online, quickly hitting over one million signatures. However, the petition is now being called fraudulent and is under investigation.

"The Sunday Express", the Sunday edition of the British right-wing tabloid "The Daily Express" reported the news very differently to the way that left-wing broadsheet "The Guardian". The Sunday Express reported the story with sensationalist language, a common convention of a tabloid, using emotive language such as "fraud" and evoking response from their right-wing audience regarding the topic of immigration with language such as "thousands sign who aren't from UK". This is likely a reflection of the newspaper's owners and editors since Richard Desmond, whose publishing company owns the Daily and Sunday Express, has donated one million pounds to UKIP, a right-wing party with a manifesto focusing considerably on immigration and demonising immigrants.

However, The Guardian takes a more liberal and less exaggerated approach, using the word "manipulated" rather than "fraud" and using the word "may" to suggest that it is not a definite. This is likely because the readers of The Guardian are likely to have left-wing political views, who are more likely to have voted to stay in the EU and therefore more likely to be in favour of the petition than the right-wing audience of The Sunday Express.
