Recent studies into male birth control shots - which use hormones to drastically reduce sperm count - show that, whilst they do prevent pregnancy, they are also likely to cause mood swings and depression. The research was published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.

In regards to public discourse regarding the story, there have been mixed responses. Feminist views as well as the views of many women in general argue that this highlights the double standards between men and women, as women have been expected to use birth control methods with similar side effects for decades.

However, others have argued that it is unfair and not morally correct to ask men to compromise their mental health, just as it isn't to ask women to do the same.
