In the week following stories such as the mass shooting in Orlando, Florida and the murder of Christina Grimmie who was also shot in Florida, a story that follows the similar theme of gun crime is that of Jo Cox's death on Thursday (16th June 2016). What's interesting about the way the story was reported is definitely the way in which different distributors reported it:

Jo Cox was a Labour MP and so, of course, many of the views surrounding her death were in a political context. Likewise it is currently in the lead up to the vote as to whether or not the UK should remain or leave the European Union, arguably the biggest vote since we voted to join, and so there is evidence in how this has also affected the stories.

"Jo Cox's death and why we have to take our country back"

For example, although the content of the Mirror's "Jo Cox's death and why we have to take our country back" pleads it's political unbias, the headline - which is what will be consumed by the most people, whether or not they choose to consume the content, is found to relate to the Brexit campaign which also urges a similar imperative to "take back our country". This relates to the context of the tabloid paper which has a generally right-wing political alliance, something that in recent weeks has been associated with the Brexit ("leave") campaign.

  1. You clearly demonstrated your understanding of the article by contextualising the story and stating how this negative event or issue has affect the nation and the nations vote in three days from now. I was able to understand a different perspective of this story from your article which you analysed.

Even though you already know this, could you mention your sources just to have an understanding from which point of view the story is coming from.

    Well done 😊
