This week, BBC broke the news of Hurricane Patricia - a storm heading towards Mexico. The headline of BBC's story reads:

The words "strongest ever" help to sensationalise the story, making it seem more dramatic and therefore increasing the likelihood that it will attract and engage an audience.

Being a story published by the BBC, an institution that is funded by the public, the story is bias and informative, with the purpose to inform rather than entertain, such as a tabloid might. It is important that this story is reported as it is in the interest of the general public.

The choice of images used also emphasises the damage and destruction of the storm, achieving the desired purpose of informing the world of the severity of the storm. This is in order to protect the public and ensure that those who the storm is heading towards are appropriately prepared and aware of the dangers.

  1. I like how you have straight away analysed the headline of this story and noted the effect this will have on the reader. Furthermore the inclusion of the source of this story helps to give the story more context.
To improve perhaps give your opinion on the story and also mention how other newspapers may have reported it to give a contrast to the balanced report from the BBC
    but well done.

  2. Your article was very structured and informing, I understood how you were able to note this article as a form of awareness and also your use of Visual evidence of the story which makes it more appealing and addresses an audience to prepare towards the dangers. Well done.
